At ALCOS 2022, each presentation consists of showing a recorded video, followed by a live Q&A. |
Release Form:
| A release form granting permission to host the presentation video online (to be accessed by the virtual conference attendees) must be uploaded before June 15, 2022, alongside with the presentation video and the slides. The form to be filled in can be downloaded here. |
Recommended video length for regular and invited presentations: 12 minutes.
Maximum video length for regular and invited presentations: 15 minutes.
Recommended video length for tutorial presentations: 25 minutes.
Maximum video length for tutorial presentations : 30 minutes.
File size limit for regular/invited/tutorial presentations: 100MB.
File format: MP4.
Minimum height: 480 pixels.
Video aspect ratio: 16:9.Please note the above specifications will be checked at the time of submission, and files not meeting them will be prevented from being uploaded. Presentations can be shorter than the indicated time, which is the maximum length allowed, providing more time for questions and discussion. Except for the above duration and digital constraints, the form of the presentation is left free (though please be sure the video includes the title of the paper, the authors, and a mention to ALCOS 2022). |
Main Recording Indications :

While there are many different options for recording your videos, an effective recording tool is embedded in the Zoom platform (the one that will be used for the conference sessions). It suffices to create a meeting where the speaker is the only participant, share the screen (the slides) and activate the camera of your laptop so that the speaker’s face is visible. Then, through the “Record” button you can easily generate your video. Please refer to the following link for further indications:
https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362473-Local-Recording. Please also note that the 16:9 aspect ratio for your video is well associated with the 4:3 aspect ratio of your slides, so that there will be enough room for your thumbnail at the side of the slides, as in the image below: |

Further Suggestions:

1. Select an appropriate microphone and room/office for optimizing your recording audio quality (you may google “best way to record a video lecture” for suggestions to minimize reverb and echo). If useful, perform a few tests before choosing what microphone to use. Check the level of your audio volume (not too high, not too low). 2. Make sure that you record the whole screen to avoid having trouble with the aspect ratio of your recording. 3. Make sure that the movement of your laser pointer (that is, the movement of your mouse cursor) is recorded. Sometimes, even if you move your mouse, it is not recorded. 4. It is highly recommended that the presenter’s face is also recorded in the video. However, by doing so, make sure that the video inset is not hiding important parts of your slides. 5. Open a timer on your second screen or on your smartphone to keep track of the elapsed time. 6. Use suitable software to ensure that the video size is below 100MB and has the right format (MP4). For example, “Handbrake” is an open-source video transcoder for converting video to MP4 and for file compression. The default settings typically reduce the size of Zoom-generated videos by a factor of three. |
